Yojo - Yojo (2013)

The debut album from this Russian band.

Yojo is a quintet with a lineup of trumpet, percussion, drums, guitars, keyboards and bass.
Two guest musicians provides violin and saxophones.

This band is new to me. But they have released two albums. The most recent one is named Abduction and it was released back in 2016.

This band plays jazz with some fusion and post-rock influences.

The trumpet is pretty dominant in their sound and music. The mostly half-acoustic guitars is backing up the trumpet. Sometimes, the trumpet is backing up the guitars. The keyboards is adding colours to the music too.

The music on this fifty minutes long album is not particular intense or fast. It is mid-paced with some interesting solos and details. Neither is this album as mad and loony as some of the Russian jazz albums I have heard lately. The music is pretty sane and straight forward.

It is a bit short on good melodies though. Nevertheless, this is an album fans of new jazz with some post rock influences should check out.
