Rantama - Rantama (2020)

The debut album from this band from Finland.

The band is a quartet with a lineup of keyboards, guitars, bass, drums, percussion and vocals.

It is always nice to hear music from bands who goes their own ways. Not necessary by re-inventing the wheel. In Rantama's case, they have taken two genres and carved out their own blend of those two genres.

Take heavy prog like for example Porcupine Tree. Add some Radiohead and then add a lot of fusion and even jazz.

That is where we find this band from Finland and this album.

There is a lot of jazz sensibilities in their music. That is evident from the first tone. That and the very good vocals.

There is a lot of half-acoustic guitars on this album and that reminds me a lot about the great jazz guitarists from decades ago.

The songs are also very dynamic and lively.

This band comes as a breath of fresh air from the thousand lakes and should really go down well in the progressive rock community.... and they have already done that.

This is a good debut album and something to build on.
