Etron Fou Leloublan - Les 3 fous Perdegagnent (1978)

The second album from this French band.

The band was a trio with a lineup of saxophones, drums, bass, guitars, flute, harmonica and vocals.

This band was one of the founders of the RIO movement. Rock In Opposition in other words. Other bands was Henry Cow, Stormy Six, Samla Mammas Manna and Univers Zero.

This band is true royal blood, in other words.

The music is proper avant-garde too. The basis is French folk rock and vaudeville.

The band has then added some theater music, mad jazz and French vocals to this mix.

And there is a lot of weirdness going on here. Most of it is lost due to my lack of French language skills. Or perhaps I have been lucky.... Most probably the latter one.

The music is full of more or less harmonic saxophones and vocals. The vocals is more or less shouted throughout. The bass, the good bass is keeping it together.

This is avant-garde at the more extreme end of the spectrum. The music on this forty minutes long album is also pretty dissonant.

It is a decent to good album though and one for those who likes avant-garde music.

2.5 points
