IQ - Tales From The Lush Attic (1983)

The debut album from this British band.

The band was a quintet on this album with a lineup of keyboards, synths, bass, drums, guitars and vocals.

I will review their albums this winter and the coming spring. Which will be a pleasure as this is one of the best neo-prog bands of all time.

The band had already released a cassette album by now and they were well rehearsed and ready when they recorded this album.

This album therefore sounds very professional and the band knew what they wanted.

The opening twenty minutes long opus The Last Human Gateway proved that. It sets the tone and their style.

... Which is a mix of Marillion, whose debut album was also released in 1983,  and Genesis.

Peter Nicholls vocals is pretty similar to Peter Gabriel and the band is leaning pretty heavy on Genesis. But they are not a copycat.

IQ very much had their own style here and this forty minutes + album set stated this case.

This is indeed a good album with some very good stuff and some not so good stuff. It is an album well worth checking out.
