Hawkwind - Sonic Attack (1981)

The 11th album from this British band.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, synths and vocals on this album.

The previous album, the 1980 album Leviathan, was a good album. I had heard they had gone heavy metal by now. But that is not true. Not for these two albums.

The band had discovered punk rock and new wave. The band had invented space rock ten years before this again, though....

... So we get a mix of both genres here.

The space rock here is pretty light and not so epic as on their first albums. The punk complements their space rock here.

The vocals are in the Johnny Rotten/John Lydon vein where some of the vocals are being spit out over some hard guitars. The sound is pretty dirty at times.

The songs are good though and these forty minutes are really good. My only gripe is the absence of a really great track. Besides of that, this is a good album.
