Paving The Labyrinth - Polyopia (2014)
The one and only album from this South African band.
The band was a quartet with a lineup of drums, guitars, bass, violin and vocals.
I have never heard about this band before the luck of the draw meant I had to review this album. It is always interesting to find new and unknown bands and albums to review.
The band gives us a mix of post-rock and post-metal.
There is a lot of chugging guitars here. The use of violin is highly original and it gives the sound an almost whining soundscape.
The vocals are not too far away Radiohead's vocalist.
Some parts of this album has an half-acoustic sound too.
The music is melodic though and has a lot of this ebbs and flows we expect from post-rock. Some parts of this album is pretty naked and pastoral.
I am not going to claim that I know this post-metal and post-rock genre well as I am reviewing far too few albums in this genre. This album is pretty good......
It is indeed a decent to good album.
