Tolar. JS - Dark Eternal Future (2019)

The second album from this US band.

JS Tolar now had help from a drummer, bassist and female vocalist. He himself did the synths, guitars and vocals.

Their first album was quite a good album. An album somewhere between neo-prog and progressive metal. Most progressive metal, though. See the review somewhere else in this blog.

JS Tolar continues down the same path with this album.

There is a some djent and post-metal on this album and that is the main difference between this album and the debut album. There is still some neo-prog left here.

I think modern progressive metal is the best label here. There is a lot of twists and turns here. The emphasis is on the progressive bit in the progressive metal label.

There is some avant-garde and sampling bits here which is adding to the alienation feeling of this album. Strangely enough, this adds value to the album and makes it better.

Not everything here is good. But fans of progressive metal should check out this album as it is a fine slab of progressive rock and metal.

On balance, this is fairly good album and it is recommended.
