Lazuli - Le Fantastique Envol de Dieter Bohm (2020)

The eight album from this French band.

The band is a quintet with a lineup of drums, bass, french horn, keyboards, marimba, guitars, percussion and French vocals.

I have heard about this band for a while without really being interested in checking them out. Well, I admit this was a mistake.

Lazuli is a band in the French symphonic and eclectic prog tradition.

Good references are Ange, Gens De La Lune and Mona Lisa. Minimum Vital is also another good reference.

The music is also influenced by the likes of Gentle Giant and Genesis.

This album is a concept album in four acts. I am not sure what the story is about. But it cannot be a bad story as the band is really doing a very good job on expressing it through the vocals and the music.

The music is really very lush and symphonic with some very good French vocals and a very good French sound. There are also some pastoral bits here and some more soaring epic bits. This album has it all for symphonic prog fans.

The end result is a very good album and I will try to get the rest of their albums now.

3.5 points
