Surgery - Ubermorgen (1980)

The one and only album from this German band.

The band was a seven piece big band with a lineup of guitar, bass, congas, drums, piano, electric piano, organ, saxophones, timpani and percussion.

This album is one of those the excellent label Garden Of Delights has picked up and saved for us and the future generations.

The original album was some forty minutes long. Garden Of Delights has added another forty minutes of archive material. I am reviewing the original 1980 album, though.

The music here is fusion with a lot of saxophones and congas. There is a thumping organ in the background and there is also some outbreaks of guitars now and then. The bass is pretty pulsating too.

The music feels more like jazz than fusion throughout this album. There is not much rock here at all. There is some prog though.... but not much.

There is a lot of solos on this album. Guitars, saxophones and organs. This ethos comes from the jazz scene.

There is also some Latin-American in their music. Quite a lot, in fact.

The end result is a decent album from a band who did not quite make it. It is still worth checking out.
