Gruppo D'alternativa - Ipotesi (1972)

The one and only album from this band from Italy.

The band was a seven piece big band with a lineup of bassoon, flute, drums, percussion, guitars, bass, keyboards and vocals.

This band has been described as a proto-RIO band.

I understand where that description comes from.

Takes the likes of Etron Fou Leloublan and that should give you a good indication where this band is in the musical landscape.

The vocals are off course in Italian and not in French. That is a big difference.

There is a lot of bassoon here off course and some good vocals. There is also some good guitars and the rhythm section is really groovy. The flute adds what it is worth too and it also adds some folky flavours.

The music is really avant-garde and RIO indeed.

A bit chaotic too.

There is method in this madness though and fans of RIO will really find an album they will appreciate. I find this album a bit short on quality. Nevertheless, check it out.
