Lucifer's Friend - Mind Exploding (1976)

The fifth album from this German band.

The band was a sextet on this album with a lineup of woodwinds, guitars, drums, bass, celesta, clavinet, piano, string ensemble, organ, percussion and vocals.
Three guest musicians provided drums, spoken words and vocals.

The band returned after Banquet, their most progressive rock album. They returned to.... well, not to what they were on their first three albums.

Brass rock bands like Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears had made an impression on the band. So had US rock too and even some...... bottles of airfresheners is being applied to my office..... disco.

So the band added this to their DNA profile and core hard rock music.

There are a lot of cheesy vocals here from John Lawton and they are not worthy of his stature and what to expect from his vocals.

The brass and strings is also pretty cheesy.

The band tried to sound like an US stadium rock band here and that falls a bit flat on it's face.

Frankly, this is their worst album up to this point and one I do not have much good to write home about.

1.5 points
