Os Mutantes - Mutantes E Seus Cometas No País Do Baurets (1972)

The fifth album from this Brazilian band.

The band was a quintet on this album with a lineup of moog, guitars, bass, drums, sitar, keyboards and vocals.

Their last album Jardim Eletrico was a pretty bad album. The band was experiencing some substance abuse after the release of that album and I did not have much hope for Mutantes E Seus.... this long titled album.

And the album starts with a horrible rockabilly pastisj too. My expectation hit the floor and I braced myself for some heartbreaking listening sessions.

They did not turn out that way.

The and continued on from the rockabilly with a good ballad in the The Beatles vein and then some psych folk rock and tropico pop. A bit mad but not bad at all.

The real good stuff comes at the end when the band breaks out into ELP and Yes territory. A path they were going to follow for the rest of their career, I have been told.

This album is clearly a transition album. Every minute of this album is a transition.

The quality is decent to good throughout this album. And my faith has been restored in this band as a result of this album. It is an album well worth checking out.
