Galaverna - Dodsdans (2019)

The debut album from this Italian band.

The band is a quintet with a lineup of viola, xilophone, bass, flute, percussion, drums, sitar, guitars and vocals.

This is a new Italian band who debuted with this Bandcamp album.

Their name is Swedish and I thought this was a Swedish band. I was very much mistaken.

Galaverna gives us a three quarter of an hour of dark and gloomy folk rock.

Opeth, these days Opeth is a very relevant reference here. There is also some Jethro Tull and a lot of Swedish folk music references here.

There is no metal here at all. The music is folk rock but very dark folk rock.

The music is mostly done by acoustic instruments and it has a very Scandinavian sound and feel. The viola is pretty much in the front of the mix. Hence why I believed this was a band from Sweden. They are from Verona, Italy..... Strange, but good.

The vocals are really good and adds to the very good sound. Ditto for the acoustic guitars and the organ.

The quality of the music is very good throughout. The mix of doom and folk rock is a new one to me and the music on this album is pretty unusual.

That alone makes this is album well worth checking out. Add the quality too and you got a very good album indeed.
