Marsyas - Emergence (2020)

The debut album from this Italian band.

The band is a quintet with a lineup of drums, bass, programming, keyboards, synths, guitars and vocals.

Marsyas is another new band to me and they has just released this album.

The band's music is heavy prog.

References are Riverside, Porcupine Tree and IQ. There are also some RPI influences in their music.
Ditto for djent.

There are also some fusion and jazz influences here and they are pretty visible in their sound. That sets the band a bit apart from most of the other new bands in the heavy prog genre.

The vocals are decent enough. They are struggling pretty hard when put to test on high notes. The band does a good job.

The songs are medium long on this almost one hour long album.

My gripe with this album is the missing quality of the songs. Their music has some fusion and jazz elements and that is the only thing that stands out here. There is not much else to enjoy here as the songs are pretty dull.

Nevertheless, check out this album.
