Hawkwind - PXR 5 (1979)

The ninth album from this British band.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of guitars, bass, drums, synths, keyboards, violin and vocals.

This album is a mishmash of studio tracks and live tracks. I guess this too is a way of earning money... but it is not really honest work.

The band had discovered new wave and punk. The opening track is close to punk. Death Trap is intelligent punk though with a lot more than just being punk. The next song is also a new wave song before a live version of an golden oldie takes us back to space rock again.

This is the formula on this album. A bit punk, a bit new wave and some space rock. This goes for almost forty minutes before the album ends with the title-track.

The space rock here is OK. It not enough of it and the rest is pretty poor.

The band has taken a big step backwards here. It is not quite a turkey, this album. But it is close, close...
