Blodwyn Pig - Ahead Rings Out (1969)

The debut album from this British band.

The band was a quartet with a lineup of guitars, bass, drums, saxophones, flutes, violin and vocals.

Blodwyn Pig is an off-shot of Jethro Tull. Mick Abrahams, The original guitarist in Tull who played on their first album, quit the band after a disagreement over style Ian Andersson.

The rest is history and Jethro Tull became a big, big band.

This Blodwyn Pig album showcases where Mick Abrahams would have taken Jethro Tull if he had won the power struggle against Ian Andersson.

Let me first say that Ian was right and Mick was wrong.

This forty minutes long album is a mix of blues, folk rock, brass rock and some sprinklings of jazz in the vein of Django Reinhardt.

Mick really has some good vocals. The music has a good mix of flutes, sax and guitars.

The music is decent enough and the music is entertaining enough. The music is not good though as it falls a lot short in the quality stake. Nevertheless, it is an album well worth checking out.
