Jefferson Airplane - After Bathing At Baxter's (1967)

The third album from this US band.

The band was a sextet on this album with a lineup of keyboards, bass, guitars, drums and vocals.

This album is the follow up to the genre defining and best selling Surrealistic Pillow album. So how do you follow up that album ?

The lineup was the same. That means the classic Jefferson Airplane lineup.

The music is psych rock as on their previous records. The difference here is that we find five suites here instead of x free standing songs. Each song in the suites is somewhat related to each other.

That also allows for some jam like avant-garde and ambient stuff in between songs. Songs which is not as melodic and immediate to the ear than on Surrealistic Pillow.

The chiming vocals and guitars are still here. Both male and female vocals.

There are still some good songs here. There is also some stuff which does not reach that level.

The result is an album somewhere between decent and good. Nevertheless, check out this album.
