Sherwood. Billy - Citizen In The Next Life (2019)

The 12th album from this US bassist.

Billy Sherwood play all instruments here himself. That is computers, drums, bass, keyboards, guitars and vocals.

Billy Sherwood has had a long career and is now the bassist in Yes. Besides of Yes, he has also played in Circa, Prog Collective, World Trade, Conspiracy and Here. All of them is good bands and my reviews of the World Trade albums can be found somewhere else in this blog.

He released his first solo album in 1999 and has worked in the studio, beside of touring with Yes and some other bands + being a session musician, since the beginning of this century.

A very busy man, indeed !

Citizen In The Next Life is a fifty minutes long album and it gives us a mix of neo-prog and rock.

Mostly rock, to be honest. Where the art-work promises a lot, the music brings us back to mother earth. And not in a gentle manner.

Billy Sherwood adopts some of the sound from the latter days Yes and drains it of interesting details.
That is what this album is.

The songs are simply not good at all. They are waffling around in many pointless directions. The vocals are the only good here. But not even they can save this album. A decent enough album, but still an album I would regard as an artistic failure.
