Amalgam Effect - Sketches (2019)

The third album from this band from USA.

The band is a quartet with a lineup of bass, guitars, bass, flute, keyboards, drums and vocals.
A female vocalist is also adding her vocals to this album.

I have yet to hear their first two albums although I have got their second album. A album I will review on a later date, this year or next year.

Heavy Prog is what ProgArchives labels this band as. And they are right.

Take some folk rock, add some metal, progressive rock and old hard rock. That is where we get this band's sound and music.

This mix of hard rock and folk rock reminds me about Jethro Tull. In particular the flutes  are in that vein.

There is also a pretty notable undertone of punk in their music. The hard rock they do here has indeed undertones of punk.

The vocals are OK and ditto for the musicians. I am not won over by the quality, though. This album is severely lacking in that department. The sound is also pretty harsh too.

This is a decent enough album. But it is nothing more than that. Sorry...
