On The Raw - Climbing the Air (2019)

The second album from this Spanish band.

The band is a quintet with a lineup of guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, flute and saxophones.
Two guest musicians provides trumpet, violin and the occasional vocals.

The band released their Big City Awakes back in 2017 and that album gave them a reputation as a band to keep an eye on. See my review here.

The band continues with their take on jazz and fusion.

The band has indeed found the formula on Big City Awakes and continues it here. That means a mix of jazz, fusion, folk rock and some prog rock.

Finding the formula and operating comfortable within it is not a bad thing. The band is not playing it safe either.

The band is stretching themselves on this album.

What is really missing here is some great melodies and tunes. There is a lot of good details here. Nevertheless, some of the material here is slightly pedestrian.

Greater compositions would have elevated this album to another level. It is still a very good album though and one to check out.
