Out Of The Beardspace - Out Of The Beardspace III (2012)

The debut album from this US band.

The band is a sextet with a lineup of guitar, drums, bass, percussion, flute, keyboards, clarinet, fx, saxophones, piano and vocals.

The band comes from New Jersey and they have released two EPs called I and II before they plunged for an hour long album on their III release. Hence why this album is called III.

The music here can best be described as experimental psych rock.

The music is all over the place. From vaudeville rock to more avant-garde rock.

Quirky is the word I am looking for here. This album is full of mad, quirky ideas which is put together as songs and tunes. The music is not particular melodic although it has some melodies.

Some of the ideas here could and should have been developed more. But the band has chosen not to go down the melodic prog/rock road.

Instead, we get bombarded by sheer weirdness.

The quality is decent to good throughout. It has it's good moments, this album. But not on a regular basis. The result is a bit of a frustrating album. Hence....
