Saluki - Saluki (1977)

The debut album from this Norwegian band.

Saluki was a sextet with a lineup of drums, bass, keyboards, saxophone, guitars and vocals.

The band has just played some Norwegian prog rock festivals and has announced new material and a possible new album sometimes next year. Hence, I got this album to check out some more Norwegian prog rock.

The band was actually pretty big in 1977 too and played on a the leading Scandinavian prog and jazz festivals plus on some European festivals too.

The music on this fifty minutes long album is a mix of fusion and progressive rock. Heavy prog at times but also some symphonic prog pops up here.

This blend of progressive rock and fusion works very well on this album. There are a lot of good melodies here. The vocals are OK, but not good. The rest of the band does a good job.

I very well understand why this band has become popular again and why this album is revered in the Norwegian scene and the rest of the prog rock scene. It is a good album which sits nicely with the rest of the scene.

Check out this good album and enjoy this hidden gem. Fans of Norwegian prog rock should get this album.
