Starcastle - Starcastle (1976)

The debut album from this US band.

The band was a sextet on this album with a lineup of guitars, moog, synths, organ, piano, bass, percussion, drums and vocals.

This band released five albums before they gave up and were disbanded. The first two albums is regarded as their best. I have reviewed their second album Fountains Of Lights here.

The band has always sounded like the US version of Yes. A reputation they cemented on this, their debut album.

The vocalist Terry Luttrell sounds like Jon Anderson. The music is also very much like Yes.

They are two or three notches less technical than Yes. The reason is that Yes had a lot better musicians than Starcastle ever had... to put it pretty blunt.

The music on this forty minutes long album is ticking away very nicely along the path set out by Yes. I very much like what I hear.

The music is also very good throughout with cascades of interesting details and things that makes symphonic prog such a great genre.

I am unashamed loving a lot of this album, indeed. And other Yes fans will do the same.
