Wingfield, Reuter & Sirkis - Lighthouse (2017)
The debut album from this band constellation.
This trio is Mark Wingfield on guitar, Markus Reuter on touch guitar and Asaf Sirkis on drums.
The trio released an album The Stone House in 2016 together with the bassist Yaron Stavi. That is why you will find this trio listed under that quartet's name in ProgArchives and in other archives.
This review is at least one year too late. I did not feel confident enough with jazz to review this album twelve months ago. But I now feel OK with my skills and is therefore more able to give this album the justice it deserves.
The trio takes us through improvised jazz. The soundscape is harsh and brutal. There is a lot of King Crimson influences here. So much that the music is eclectic and introvert from the first to the last tone.
This almost one hour long album is also dark and gloomy. It is brooding and based on finger tapping and screaming guitars. The drums are also very active.
This is eclectic and very technical music which is not for everybody. It is still a good album which I may like more when I get more and more into jazz.
