Whalefeathers - Declare (1970)

The debut album from this US band.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, timpani, bass, keyboards, guitars, percussion and vocals.

The band released two albums before the were disbanded in 1973. Twenty years ago, both albums was re-released on CD as a 2 for 1 CD.

The band name is..... ehh.... inventive. It is easy to notice, though. But perhaps for the wrong reasons. I am sitting on the fence here.

The music is not so strange or inventive.

Take Deep Purple, Mark 1 and add some symphonic prog and psych rock to the mix. That should give a pretty strong hint where we find this band.

The music is pretty heavy for those days. But not as heavy as heavy metal.

The Hammond organ is pretty great here and so is the vocals and the guitars. These keeps us entertained throughout these thirty-five minutes.

The songs are not bad at all. They are decent enough and there is some good stuff here too. The band knew what they were doing and this album deserves a listen or ten. It is recommended for those in seek of obscure bands and albums.
