Jordsjø - Nattfiolen (2019)

The fifth album from this Norwegian band.

The band is a duo with a lineup of flute, mellotron, organ, guitar, drums, percussion and vocals.
The duo had help from five guest musicians who provided bass, percussion, synths and backing vocals.

The Norwegian prog rock scene is rightly regarded these days. This band is one of the reasons for this scene's very good reputation.

The band a new band. But they hit their strides on their debut album and never slowed down.

Their mix of pastoral symphonic prog and Norwegian folk rock really hit a lot of heart strings.

Nattfiolen almost sounds like an Italian symphonic prog album. Banco and PFM springs to mind. There is lots of flutes here with cascades of soft mellotrons, piano and guitars too.

Oh yeah, they sound very RPI at times.

There is still this very strong Norwegian trolls feeling in the music. Music which is inspired by and also based by old Norwegian folk songs.

The result is that this band has again released a great album and one which will be remembered for a long time. An album which combines the more esoteric and dreamy symphonic prog genre with the more earthly folk rock genre.

Check it out !
