Whalefeathers - Whalefeathers (1971)

The second and final album from this US band.

The band was a quartet with a lineup of timpani, bass, drums, percussion, guitars, keyboards and vocals.

The band released two albums and then disappeared again. The norm back in a very hard business where only the best one survives. Whalefeathers simply did not sell enough albums and that was that.

We can again hear a lot of Deep Purple, Mark I influences in their music. That is an obvious reference.

There is also some soul and a lot of blues in their music. The music is pretty hard but also melodic at the same time.

The organ sound is very good and the vocalist is also up to the task given to him.

There is some interesting details throughout this album and the band knew what they were doing. So much that they and their two albums deserve the hidden gems label.

The quality here is a mix of decent and good. It is actually quite a nice album and one that I enjoy a lot. But the quality is not there, I am afraid.
