Morrigan. The - Wreckers (1995)

The third album from this British band.

The Morrigan was a quintet with a lineup of guitars, bass, drums, triangle, timpani, percussion, keyboards, flute, programming and female vocals.

The Morrigan was originally a pure folk music group who then turned into an electric folk rock band. The conversion happened on the album before this album. You can read the review of that album and their other albums somewhere else in this blog.

Wreckers was the type of people who lured the sailing ships to their death by acting like mobile false lighthouses. That means the ships fell for the ruse and got crushed by rocks. Many, many people lost their lives in this activity and I believe it was a capitol punishment type of crime for those who were discovered doing it.

I believe this is a concept album about this type of activities.

This one hour long story is told through some electric folk rock with lots of excellent female vocals from Cathy Alexander.

The music varies from Camel like songs to more folk rock and even some more exotic music like reggae like rock.

The sound is excellent and the quality of the songs are good throughout. This is a good album for those into both prog and folk rock. Check it out.
