Yardbirds - Roger The Engineer (1966)

The second album from this UK band.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of harmonica, guitars, bass, piano,  drums and vocals.

This album was released under various different names in different territories. The disco of this band is a total mess and some even claim this is Yardbirds only album. I want to include Yardbirds in this blog and has chosen three albums to represent them.

Jeff Beck was very much present here and did all the lead guitars. The only album where he did all the leads as Eric Clapton had by now left the band.

The music is a mix of blues, teenybopper and blues.

Some of the music sounds incredible naive and teenybopper anno 2020. Some of the lyrics are pretty risky anno 1966 but totally strange anno 2020.

Times has changed, indeed.

The music is not too bad although it has barely survived the test of time. Barely.

There is some interesting bluesy and beat songs here. But some of the songs falls a bit flat on their face. Yardbirds has been an incredible important band for the history of modern rock and this album should be included in any serious record collection.
