Brand X - Is There Anything About? (1982)
The sixth album from this British band.
The band was a sextet with a lineup of percussion, drums, keyboards, bass, guitars and voices.
Three guest musicians provided handclaps, saxophone and voices.
This is the third album from the Product recording session. It was a productive session and the band has filled three albums worth of material based on that session. Not bad......
The other left-overs album from that session, Do They Hurt from 1980 is actually better than the main album, Product from 1979. So I had my hopes up for this album, Is There Anything About.
These leftovers are a mix of laidback jazz and fusion. There are even some symphonic prog influences here. Some strong ones too. The band also knows to funk out.
Phil Collins is still at the drums and does a good job. Ditto for the rest of the musicians.
The album is just over half an hour long and proves that this band, even their leftovers, is really up there among the best in the fusion and jazz-rock scene.
This half an hour is that good. That is why I wonder why Product is so much weaker than the two leftover albums..........
