Arco Iris - Pipas De La Paz (1987)

The eleventh album from this band from Argentina.

The band was a sextet with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, charango, woodwinds, flute, pan pipes, synths and vocals.

The album was also released as Peace Pipes.

The first  thing that hits me on this album is the pan pipes. And there is a lot of pan pipes muzak albums out on the market so pan pipes has got a bit of a cheezy reputation these days.

Arco Iris is a band far above the level of cheezy and cheap. So there is no reason to worry.

The music is fusion with a lot of local folk music incorporated. And most of it with pan pipes as the major instruments. The pan pipes is played here with a lot of technical prowess.

The music is rather eclectic and quirky. Even the pan pipes are that on this album. An album that proves that not all pan pipes music is cheezy. It more than proves that.

Not all music is good here. But there is a lot of good music on this album. It is an album well worth checking out and it will change the listeners views on pan pipes.

Check out this album.
