Winstons. The - The Winstons (2016)

The debut album from this Italian band.

The band is a trio with a lineup of woodwind, drums, bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals.
A couple of guest musicians provided trumpet and programming.

I have heard about this band for a long time but have always believed they were a prog metal band. I was wrong..... very wrong.

The band is a cooperation between three indie rock musicians. They wanted to branch into some more jazzy progressive rock.

The result was this album. An album which is very much a Canterbury prog album.

That is Canterbury prog combined with some late 1960s psych rock. There are a couple of songs here which very much reminds me about both The Beatles and The Moody Blues.

There is even a song here called On A Dark Cloud which is very good psych song.

The rest of the album is a mixed bag with psych and avant-garde Canterbury prog.

The vocals are really good and the keyboards sounds like an organ from the good old days. Ditto for the trumpets and the woodwinds.

I am positive surprised by this album. A very good album well worth checking out.
