Quintessence - Quintessence (1970)

The second album from this UK band.

The band was a sextet with a lineup of flute, guitars, drums, percussion, bass and vocals.

I was not overly impressed by their debut album although I expressed the view that I was looking forward to listen to their four remaining albums.

This band is one of the bigger bands in the raga-rock scene. It is a genre very influenced by the Indian music. George Harrison from The Beatles started it all and were also instrumental in bringing this scene to us in the west.

The rest is history..... and bands like this one.

The first half gives us a nice mix of psych rock, fusion and some raga. And the music is good with some really good vocals and guitar harmonies. There are some really good melodies here too and a good ambience.

The album falls a bit flat on it's face when the band runs out of ideas and resort to some Indian chants and drones. That is never impressive and a bad sign.

The end result is again an album somewhere between decent and good. It is a raga rock album and those who likes this genre and don't mind some hare krishna chants will like this album a lot.
