Surprise - Assault On Merryland (1977)

The one and only album from this US band.

The band was a quartet with a lineup of flute, piccolo, trumpet, typani, drums, percussion, celeste, mini moog, moog, organ, grand piano, bass, guitars and vocals.

This band arrived, released this album and then disappeared again.

The band is supposed to be one of the bands in the US symphonic prog scene. I am surprised because this is now how I read this band's music.

Take a bit Blue Oyster Cult, some psych, some symphonic prog, new age and some straight rock. That is where you will find this album.

This album is also a concept album. I have no idea about what.

The music is melodic with some fairly good details. It feels a bit dull and the music is not really up to the required standard.

This is a decent to good album. It is nothing more than that though. But fans of US symphonic prog should get their compilation of US symphonic prog albums completed with this album.
