Gizmo - Just Like Master Bates (1979)

The debut album from this British band.

The band was a quartet with a lineup of organ, keyboards, minimoog, violin, guitars, bass, drums, percussion, farfisa, clavinet and vocals.

This band released five albums between 1979 and 2015. I have reviewed their final two albums. I quite liked them.

Gizmo is a Kent band who really never became big in the neo-prog scene. They were at best in the third division of the neo-prog league.

The music on this album is a mix of neo-prog, before it was even invented, and new romantism. New romantism was a music genre which sprung out of the punk movement. Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet was the most famous bands here before they became zillion albums selling bands.

The music on ....Bates is really melodic. It is not particular complex. The added violin gives the music a bit of a weirdness.

Most of the music is straight forward rock though.

The music is decent enough with some good vocals. The quality is not there, though. Nevertheless, it is a decent enough album.
