Speed Limit - Speed Limit II (1976)

The second and final album from this French band.

Speed Limit was a sextet on this album with drums, bass, wind instruments, electric piano and percussion.
There were also some hired in strings players and a female choir on this album.

This was another Magma side project. Both Yocho Seffer and Janick Top plays on this album.

I was not that impressed by their 1975 self-titled debut album. Too much free improvisations and not enough structures and coherence. You can read my review here.

The band has introduced some plans in their jazz attacks. Some methods in this madness.

The most obvious change is the introduction of female and male choirs. That is very zeuhl'ish. There is also a lot of harmonies inbetween the relentless woodwinds and electric organ attacks.

It is obvious that there are proper songwriting behind this album.

The album is forty minutes too and it is a good album. The solos is good and so is the more zeuhl like harmonies. I am surprised how good this album is. Unfortunate, this was their final album too. That is a good reason to check it out.
