Koyo - Koyo (2017)

The debut album from this English band.

Koyo is a quintet with a lineup of synths, samples, guitars, bass, drums and vocals.

Koyo comes from Leeds in the north of England. Yorkshire, this area of England is called. It is said to be God's own county. I am not so sure about that....

The band has released this album as a digi download, LP and CD. And they are playing some festivals too this year. Prog festivals, mostly. A young and aspiring band, they are indeed.

Their music is a mix of indie rock, psychedelia and neo-prog.

The music is sometimes a bit harsh and hard rocking. But there is also some mid-tempo and even some pastoral music on this one hour long album. There is even a male and female vocals duet here with some acoustic guitars.

The music has progressive rock song structures with some weird rhythms. There is also some more commercial stuff here.

The sound is good. The intentions is very good. Unfortunate, the art of songwriting is not really up there. I am struggling a bit with this album as it is ambitious, but not quite a good album. Hence the rating.

2.5 points
