Icare - Aquarelle (1980)

The one and only album from this French band.

Icare was a quintet with guitars, keyboards, bass, drums and French vocals.

The band had no less than three guitarists. That is highly unusual.

It is in particular unusual taken into the account the music we find on this album. French symphonic prog.

French symphonic prog it is with some strong influences from both Wishbone Ash and Camel. Yes, I did have some problems believing what my ears was telling me. The Wishbone Ash influences are actually very strong here.

The music is not that heavy though. It is mid-tempo and quite pleasant. And yes, the three guitarists actually works very well together. Sometimes, we find twin electric guitars with the acoustic guitars playing over and under those again.
The vocals are really good too and suits this music down to the ground.

I really love French symphonic prog and this album is a very nice addition to collection. The music is also a grower. This album is forty minutes and it gives me a lot of pleasures.

Check out this good album and you too will be surprised.
