Collapse - The Fall (2013)

The second album from this French band.

Collapse is a powertrio with a lineup of guitars, bass and drums. There are also some sporadic vocals here. But most of this album is instrumental.

I have not had the chance to listen to their 2011 self-titled debut album. But I guess it is in the same style as this album.

Instrumental hard post-rock and shoegaze is quite a genre these days. It is perhaps a myth that this scene is full of college and university students. It has this intellectual mood, this kind of music. A kind of objective fiendish distance to life and the surrounding world.

And that is the kind of music we get here. Guitars on the top and as the melody creating instrument. The bass and drums supports the guitars.

The music ebbs and flows as per normal for shoegaze and post-rock. The music is at times biting hard. As hard as the jaws of a hungry great white shark.

The music is surprisingly good through. Surprisingly good as I normally have no expectations to albums from this genre. These fifty-two minutes really dishes up with some soaring and pastoral tunes. Hence my verdict.
