Madder Lake - Stillpoint (1973)
The debut album from this Australian band.
Madder Lake was a quartet with a lineup of organ, bass, drums, guitars and vocals.
The band is a kind of local heroes in Australia and very much treasures. I think the band is still gigging in one form or another. Which is great, off course.
They have released three albums. Two albums in the 1970s and one not so many years ago.... in 2013. I have only got this one.
The music scene in Australia was pretty much isolated from the rest of the world due to poor communications with USA, UK and Europe. So they made their own fun based on a few inspirations from the rest of the world.
Hence, Madder Lake plays a mix of beat, psych prog and heavy prog. Most of their music is hard. The organ is adding a lot of psych and so is some of the songs on this thirty-five minutes long album too.
The vocals is very good. Ditto for the organ and the guitars. The songs are not that good, though.
This is a decent enough album with it's charms and whistles. But it is not something I really rate highly. But check it out if old hard prog is your style.
