Arabs in Aspic - Strange Frame Of Mind (2010)

The second album from this Norwegian band.

Arabs In Aspic is a quartet with a lineup of guitars, bass, drums, cowbell, organ, synths, percussion and vocals.

I have heard a lot about this band as they are highly rated. But I have not dipped my toes into their music before now. This spring, I will review four of their albums/you will find my reviews of their other albums somewhere else in this blog.

The band has a flower power image and that is reflected in their music...... and in their excellent cover art-works.

The music is a mix of psychedelia, krautrock and flower power music. Add in some prog too and you will get this album. The music is at times pretty whimsical too.

The sound is very much in the 1970s era with some great guitars and organs. It is medium heavy with a lot of whimsical stuff and details. The vocals are good.

The lyrics is a mix of Norwegian and English. They are weird, to say at least. But that is a positive. The bonus track on this forty-five minutes long album is the Focus classic Hocus Pocus. A very good version it is too.

This is a good album indeed and one that really has opened my eyes to this band.
