Forty Days. The - The Colour of Change (2017)
The debut album from this Italian band.
The Forty Days is a quartet with a lineup of guitars, keyboards, drums, bass and English vocals.
... And that is all I know about this band. They are playing a lot of gigs though and has a pretty high level of activities. Which is great !
Their music is umistaken and unashamed neo-prog in the good old English tradition. Marillion and Pendragon springs to mind.
Is they a Rock Progressive Italiano, RPI, band ? I would say yes because they are very much active in the scene and they comes from Italy. Their music is also looking a bit back to PFM and Banco. The Forty Days are a fine band in that tradition although their music is neo-prog.
And there is nothing wrong with neo-prog.
The music on this fifty minutes long album is both melodic and a bit complex. There is a lot of very good guitar solos. The keyboards is also good and the vocals is very good.
This album is perhaps sticking too much to the neo-prog formula. That said, all neo-prog fans will like albums like this one and they should really embrace this album and band.
There is no great songs here and that is my only gripe. Nevertheless, this is a solid, good album and I hope, and believe, we will hear a lot more from this band in the future. I cannot wait.
