C Sides - We Are Now (2017)

The debut album from this British band.

C Sides is a trio with a lineup of guitars, keyboards, drums, bass and vocals.

C Sides is one of the many guitar orientated prog rock bands debuting with an album these days. The scene is in rude health and sometimes comes up with a great band...... or five.

The band confesses that they are massive influenced by Rush. Which is something that hit me even before reading the blurb around this album.

Take a bit Moving Pictures from Rush and add lot more guitars and a youtful naive sound. A bit indie and college rock can also be detected here.

The guitars and the guitar sound is good. The vocals is also good and thankfully not in the high pitching Geddy Lee mould. Geddy Lee's vocals are great in Rush. Nevertheless, any copycats are not wanted. C Sides vocals are far more restrained and melodic.
The bass and drums are good, too. Ditto for the sparse keyboards which is just doing the fills and the open spaces leftover by the guitars and vocals.

The songs are not particular good and the band has a lot of improvements to make here. Hence my rating of an acceptable debut album.

2.5 points
