Atlantropa Project - Atlantropa Project (2017)
The debut album from this German project.
The band is a seven piece big band with a lineup of mandolin, cajon, piano, violin, keyboards, guitars, bass, drums and vocals. Both male and female English vocals.
The mainman in this band was a one time member of the very obscure psych/space rock band Waniyetula. I rated their one and only album, the 1983 album A Dream Within A Dream as a turkey. Read my review here.
It is my opinion that Atlantropa Project has nothing to do with Waniyetula.
Atlantropa Project is also the name of the idea to dam up the Mediterranean Ocean to create new land and hydro electricity. This as an alternative to Hitler's plans to get more Lebensraum. This album is an concept album about this dam project and in the final part of this album; the conflict with the Lebensraum idea.
I have to admit I knew absolute nothing about this dam idea before I started to listen to this album. I have in short learnt something new !
The album is based on short songs with narrations between the songs. The music is symphonic prog with a lot of neo-prog. The music is also pretty soft and pastoral.
This is a typical concept album which is highlighting an idea so wild and obscure that someone had to make a concept album about it. Mission accomplished. The music is also good throughout too. This album is well worth checking out.
