Shalash Band - Shalash (2018)

The debut album from this Russian band.

Shalash Band is really only Maxim Smirnov on drums, percussion plus Dmitry Karaveav on keyboards.

I remember a band called Little Tragedies from Russia. It was one man and a lot of keyboards. When starting to listen to this album, I suddenly remembered their albums.

There was a lot more substance in Little Tragedies music, though. There was more music in Little Tragedies albums.

The lineup of keyboards, drums and percussion does not sound promising. And the band is not delivering much either.

Take some TV jingles and add some pseudo-classical music with a Russian twist and folklore sound. That is when you get this album. Symphonic prog ? It is not.

The music sounds cheap and nasty. It is mostly that. There are some pieces of music which rises above the turkey yard and does not really make me despair too much.

Most of this album is pretty dismal though. And it is not progressive rock at all. It is not even progressive music. I am not impressed.
