Jaivas. Los - Palomita Blanca (1992)
The 10th album from this band from Chile.
Los Jaivas was a quintet on this album with a lineup of guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, Spanish vocals and all kinds of local strings, percussion and woodwinds.
The band has delivered some good and some rather bland albums since their debut album back in 1971. They started out as a pure folk rock band and then moved towards symphonic prog and more commercial pop/rock.
And on their tenth album, they starts out with folk music, pure and simple. Folk music in the vein of Los Jaivas.
The album moves towards folk rock and then some strange avant-garde.
I think this avant-garde is more like an album filler than really well thought through avant-garde. The avant-garde here does not make much sense. Neither does it add any quality to this album.
The folk music and the rest of this fifty minutes long album is a bit better. There are some good guitars and some good harmonies here.
The music is decent though and that is what this album is. A decent album which does not really excite me that much. Los Jaivas can do a lot better than this album.
