Mechanical Butterfly - The Irresistible Gravity (2014)

The debut and so far the only album from this Italian band.

The band was a sextet with a lineup of guitars, keyboards, drums, bass and female vocals.

Not everything from Italy is RPI - Rock Progressive Italiano. There are also a lot of progresive rock from Italy who does not conform to the RPI standards.

A lot of these bands has popped up in the last ten years. Mechanical Butterfly is one of them.

I thought I was in for an instrumental ambient album after the long instrumental first minutes. But I was wrong....

These three quarters of an hour gives us a mix of female fronted prog, some Arabic music, folk rock, some progressive metal and indeed some ambient music.

The band covers a lot of bases on this pretty diverse album.

The vocals and the instruments are really good. The music too is good. What this album is sorely lacking is a killer track or two. Something that would have created some interest around this band.

I do not think they really caught on in the scene and I am afraid this band is another one-album band.
This album is well worth checking out.
